The holiday season is almost over. The shopping is done; the gifts are given. We all probably ate more than we should have and it is time for us to get back to what we consider “normal.”
But how did your pets fare?
Did you neglect them for a bit?
Did you tuck them away in a room so company would not be bothered?
Were you out more than you were home?
Did you feed them too many goodies?
Well, now is the time to get them back on a normal routine if you have fluctuated from it.
Catch up on your exercise! Taking the dog out for a daily long winter walk would be beneficial to you as well as to your pet. Take in the scenery around you; breathe in the fresh air. Your body will thank you for it and your pet will be happy to spend time with you.
Even if it is not a long walk outside; just a bit of exercise and some “play time” would create happiness for all involved. Let the bunny hop around a bit….let your bird stretch its’ wings….let the ferret prance in the playpen; we all need to exercise.
Remember to clean. During the past few weeks it may not have been unusual for most of us just to do quick cleaning jobs on our pet cages. Who had any time? Let’s make a deal now to take the time to give them a good scrubbing. As we all know, it does not take long for dirt and grime to really build up.
Grooming would be another consideration. Most dogs and cats love their daily coat brushing. Don’t forget teeth also if you were cleaning them before the holiday rush.
Check the nails on your small animals and birds; is it time for their trimming? How about the bird’s wings (if you normally keep them trimmed)?
Maybe it’s time for a water change on your fish tank? Or is it time to change the filter cartridge (just remember not to do on the same day as the water change)?
As you can see, it is easy for some us to fall out of our routines during the holiday season rush but, no problem we can just turn things around in a few easy steps.
Have a great day; off to trim my Amazon’s nails!
